New Release: The Ultimate Makeup Journal
Do you use makeup? I bet you have more than you technically need (I know I do). Maybe several of one particular kind — say lipstick, eyeshadow — plus a few rattling around in a drawer that you just can’t let go of. Maybe because of the way one brings out the light in your eyes or another simply because it’s fun.
Makeup is like crayons for grown-ups. It’s fun and playful and beautiful. And since we are in the lucky position of having more disposable income than the average three-year-old, we usually end up with quite a lot of it.
That’s why I created The Ultimate Makeup Journal. There are two editions — the Blue Modern edition and the Art Deco edition.

For most of my life, I used very little makeup and had no problems keeping track of it. Then I did the Bold Lipstick Challenge, then the 30-Day Lipstick Adventure
And that’s when I was converted to this wonderful way of playing with riot of colours and sparkles and textures. It really is a treasure! (but less expensive than jewels)
I also found out that when you have more than a handful of a particular type of makeup, you’ll quickly have need of some notes. A journal was the obvious answer.
The style of the two versions of The Ultimate Makeup Journal are different, but the format is the same. They have a space for the facts at the top, including what type of makeup a particular page is dedicated to (lipstick, eyeliner, eyeshadow palette, foundation, etc.), the brand, name, and colour. And then it gets fun. Because that’s when you get to decide what you want to do.
Each page has box for… Well, I like putting a swatch in the box. You could also add a number for a rating, or maybe you can rate it by little gold stars stickers. Or you can use that box for something else entirely.
Pro tip: When I do a swatch, I cover it with a clear sticker to prevent smudging.
The rest of the page is an open field so you can give your creativity free reign. There’s lots of room for notes, a drawing, doodling, or adding a memento. You can talk about the outfit you wore, the other makeup that works well with that particular item, a memory of when you used it, maybe add a printout of a selfie, or concert ticket.
That’s one of my favourite things about these journals. How you play with it is entirely up to you.
You might be wondering what I’m doing designing and publishing makeup journals. I mean, where’s my next book on living well with chronic illness? It’s in the works, but… let’s get back to the makeup journals. Living well with chronic illness is about putting the emphasis on your life and enjoying it as much as possible. Adventure and fun is part of that. And if you like makeup, you know how fun it can be to play with. That’s why the journals. PS also because I had fun designing them.
I hope you have a blast using them!
The Ultimate Makeup Journal: Blue Modern edition and The Ultimate Makeup Journal: Art Deco edition are both available on Amazon.

Love this! The vintage design is adorable.
Thank you! I had so much fun designing them.
Love these designs. I will have to pass this along to my wife and girls who are huge makeup fans. Especially my youngest. I think she could have a career in it actually.
Exactly the kind of person I had in mind when creating the journal! Thanks so much and all the best. 🙂
It’s such a great idea of having journals. It’s creative and attractive. My wife would grab this idea for sure.
So happy to hear that! Thanks so much for your comment.
I love that you are using the creativity of make up to make the most of your life! Your designs are fantastic! I’ve been trying to experiment more with make up lately too!
Makeup is fun… And thank you!
The ultimate makeup journal looks great. I especially like the blue modern edition.
Might be mine, too. but then when I’m in a different mood, it’s the Art Deco edition. Luckily I don’t have to choose. 🙂
It’s great to experiment with different make-up and see how it changes our face. Keeping a journal is an awesome idea.
The idea hit me when I realized I had 3 nude lipsticks that were a bit different, but I couldn’t remember how!
I love makeup for many occasions. It helps a lot to lift the mood up and see how different I look that way. Keeping a journal never crossed my mind but I am sure it is FUN!
I am a librarian at heart… 🙂
I need a make up journal. I have forgotten the name of some of the Lipsticks I had used in the past.
Exactly! It helps you remember which you liked and which you didn’t. (and where you got them)
You know I never have heard of this but I actually think it’s a great idea! And I don’t have a ton of makeup only because it’s just so expensive and so are my kids! But I have run into problems when I am wanting to purchase the same makeup foundation or blush that I have purchased before and I forget the exact number that it is. Or if they are out and I want to buy something similar in a different brand it would be helpful to have a swatch right there to compare. So this is a great idea!
that’s exactly one of the top reasons I designed this!
I love the photo of you with the aqua lipstick on. Made me think ot would be cool to have purple lipstick on Fibromyalgia awareness day as their awareness colour is purple. And there are so many possibilities for wearing different relevant colours for different awareness days. There goes my imagination on the subject… lol.
