   (laughing) That's pretty crazy, all right. Here in California, we have our own version of teh crazy, though. When the temperature falls to about 60 degrees, it's quite common to see people out in parkas, gloves and scarves. Everywhere you go, you'll hear them bemoaning the bitter cold and longing for spring… and this is when the sun is out. On the weather news, if a winter rainstorm meanders through, the weatherheads go nuts, putting reporters out on the sides of the freeways to report on conditions in the rain, and cameramen in the downtowns, getting shots of people in parkas with umbrellas. I, having been through many bitter, North German winters, note all this with wonder and not a little snark. And I long to live where winters are REAL, just so I can enjoy spring and summer.    Craaaaazy! My contribution to the day (which was a lovely one) was switching from my über-warm 3/4-length puffy coat to my regular winter coat! L

   And sandals!  I love it.  We have those here, too – folks who ski in shorts (in the snow! when it's in the 20s or 30s!), or who go swimming in an outdoor pool when it's in the 30s (um, wait, that would be me – sigh – at least it's heated!).   And we don't even have the excuse of a previous month of below-0 temps.

   I saw a boy going into school during our crazy New England snows (3+ feet of snow on the ground, drifts/piles 6 feet and higher!), entering school in shorts and a t-shirt, no coat, having been dropped off by mom!   A 6th or 7th grader!   Who's nuttier, that kid or his mom?????

   I always make my kids bring a proper coat in the car, no matter that they will be in a warm car then a warm building…suppose the car breaks down?????

   Ever heard of Geordies, from the North East of England?? Well, I'm one and you've convinced me that Canadians are our soul mates when it comes winter attire :D.
