Real RA: Opening a Pop/Soda Can

RA hands can make a lot of things difficult, some of them big, some of them small. Sometimes it’s about the jar, sometimes it isn’t. And sometimes, it’s about something as simple as a can of pop.

Over time, you develop tricks and workarounds to do what you need to do. Today, I share mine for opening those recalcitrant cans – all you need is a fork. Sure, your health would be better without the fizzy wonder liquid, but every now and again, you gotta give in…

Note: forgot to mention why a small fork doesn’t work and only had the one can. The tines need to be long enough to brace against the edge of the hole in the can while keeping the tab steady and straight. If you use a small fork, the tab bends instead of opening.

Isn't it amazing how we find a way to do things. I do the exact same thing except I have slender silverware and can use the other end of the fork.

Applause to film crew and extra, too!

(Your robot proof is going to be a challenge so I shall start…haven't got a clue about the first one….)

Gotta admit, the credits were my favourite part. 😉

I use this trick myself! was tired of asking hubby to open my cans for me all the time. Have a great jar opener I bought for same reason too. 🙂 Thanks for the tip!

Nice Lene. Is this the beginning of your video segments? Enjoyed the credits also.

There is a tool in pet stores for opening pet food pop top cans. It's just a few dollars. I bought two and use them to open soda and pop top fruit & vegetable cans.

I bought a super jar opener and it has a pop top opener on the side! Wonderful! This is ever so inventive! I had quite a few mornings trying to feed the cats with those @$*&$ cans before I had an opener!

Thank you for the video. I liked when your 4 footed “supervisor” strolled by, making sure all was well.

My mother-in-law had two of what Marietta's mentioning (or at least I think it's the same idea) and while we were visiting, she insisted on my taking one home. It's shaped kind of like a runner on a kid's sled, a long J curve coming to a blunt point at the end.
