#ChronicChristmas Day 8: Say Hello
Let’s do an experiment today.
Instead of being glued to your phone, book, or block out the world by popping in the earbuds and listening to music, leave it all in your pocket or bag, and look up.
Look at the scenery as you drive by. I should clarify that if you are actually at the wheel, the only scenery you should be looking at is the road and the traffic. If you’re lucky enough to go on public transit, look out the window.
Look at the crowds. People watching is one of the great joys of life, and even more fun if you combine it with making up stories about the people you see.
Say hello. Strike up a conversation with the person next to you. Share a personal moment with the barista who makes your coffee. Say something nice to the harried sales clerk. Share a bagel and a word with the homeless guy on the corner that everyone else ignores.
Engage. Connect. You won’t regret it.
Can you share a story of connecting with a stranger?
