Build a Good Relationship with Your Doctor
When you have a chronic illness, your doctor is one of the most important people in your life.When you find a good one, they’ll be with you for years, even decades, sometimes more than other relationships. My new post for Mango Health shares tips on how to build a good relationship with you doctor:
“If I asked you to list the important relationships in your life, would you include your doctor? Most of us wouldn’t think to expand this definition beyond our closest family and friends.
But if any health complications arise, doctors play an essential role in getting us the right treatment as quickly as possible. Speaking from experience, I can assure you that building a good relationship with your doctor definitely improves your experience of living with chronic illness.
My two favorite doctors
I moved to downtown Toronto from the suburbs a couple of decades ago, and it quickly became clear that I needed new doctors. When your chronic illness calls for frequent trips to your physician’s office, proximity matters.
After a bit of searching, I first found a family doctor, who happened to be associated with a teaching hospital. She referred me to my rheumatologist. Seventeen years later, both of these women are still my doctors.”

I have two criteria for wonderful doctors. Fist, they have to be referred by one of my doctors. Second, They have to laugh at my jokes. One is not enough, it takes both and yes no laugh, I do no go back. Hey a man needs an audience for his stand up.
